I read on a site that Keith Carling has the record from 92 of 2:13. The boys with some decent laps under there belts should be able to smash that i would think..

Yeah that's pretty much what I was thinking, they'd surely go very close to lapping it in 2 minutes flat in the right conditions. I would love to overlay the data from a lap in a front running Sport Sedan to a V8 supercar on a track like Phillip Island, Eastern Creek, Sandown. I bet there would be a big difference in end speed on the straights being lighter, more powerful and having possibly less aero drag although that might be a bit debatable.
The corner speed comparison would be interesting because as much as I hate to admit it those Super Taxis do handle pretty well. Interesting to note that during the Porsche race the commentators were saying that the Porsches were quicker over the top of Mt Panorama then the V8s!

i heard a rumour that the 12 hour was being looked at by phil at one stage. phil is there any chance of somthing like this?

CAMS / Shannons series is holding a round at Bathurst early next year however the programme is already full.
It would take 50% of the annual budget to hold one round there. Alternatively we need app 50 entries to make it work for us. That is why the categories you see up there are like saloon cars / HQ / app J etc. They are low cost to run cars so they can afford the big one off entry fee.

In my opinion we have a safety issue as many cars are not as structurally strong as supercars and you no doubt saw the type of damage and injury suffered at Bathurst over the last 3 years in particular.

Sure we could throw caution to the wind and I am sure Darren, Tony, Kerry and some others would put in a sharp lap time but I have to keep the series sustainable.

Maybe I throw this forum open. If you want to race at Bathurst in 2010 (and pay the $1500 entry fee) list your name and if I get 50 names backed up by cheques then I will pursue it. Any sponsorship raised for the event will go back to the entrants via travel fund, start money and prize.

I agree with the Safety Issues Phil has raised. In speaking to various competitors about the subject of Bathurst and Sports Sedans, issues have been raised such as the compulsory for use of head/neck (HANS) type protection and the need for us all to think about the side intrusion and general strength of our vehicles. We don't need the negative publicity of cars that would never have a problem elsewhere, "flying apart" at speed at Mt. Panorama.

If the Sports Sedans are ever provided with the opportunity to race at the Mountain, we cannot allow it to become a Safety Car procession similar to the Fujitsu races at Bathurst last weekend. That is certainly not a good look for the category.

The last time I (and Sports Sedans) raced at the Gold Coast Indy, blokes were firing off in every direction and the races were a total farce due to some sizeable "brain fades" by competitors that should have known better. Probably one of the reasons (apart from $$$$) as to why we haven't been invited back.

If any consideration was to be given to a race at Bathurst for Sports Sedans, I think it's important that supporters of the Kerrick Sports Sedan Series Rounds, followed by regular State Championship competitors be given the first option on entering the event. Competitors that have had their cars in garages for the last five-ten years should not be considered (regardless of the potential quality of their rocket) until the core group of National and State Sports Sedans that have been propping up the category for years are given the option of competing.

The experience of competitors such as Tony Ricciardello, Des Wall, Kerry Baily and Steven Voight (guys that have competed there and know what is required) should be drawn upon in a similar fashion to the Indianapolis "Rookie Testing".

Our team would be willing to support a race at Bathurst with one of our cars, on the condition that other competitors would treat the opportunity with the same respect that it deserves.

ie. creeping up the speed slowly, learning the place properly, making sure the car is as safe as you can make it, respecting each other out on the track etc.

I'd say that anyone that laps Bathurst in a sub 2:20 by the end of the weekend in their Sports Sedan would have done a good job (taking into account the minimal track time that we would probably receive) - but it would be an awesome sight to witness the speed that Tony and Darren could get out of their beasts around the mountain...... :o

Thats a very respectable response there falcon el and i agree 100%. We may have a good oppurtunity to showcase the fastest tintops in australia on the best track in the world. I also agree on the point of regular runners gettin first dibs of spots on the grid. Lofty may be able to back me up on this one but from what i heard when he ran the skyline in the ipra at bathurst he was only given a reserve spot even though he was a current nsw champ... A bit sad when the premier team in nsw ipra couldnt get a run at bathurst...
