Will the SportsSedans ever go back to Bathurst? Maybe 2009?

And what lap time you think they would do?

MAYBE when oran park closes we will get a round there, would be absolutely awesome. Probably only a little quicker than a touring car though, back in 92 was it? i thnk they did an 11? but were knockin time off lap after lap as they learnt the circuit.

you would have to bet on darren and tony going below a 6 fo sure wouldnt you? not quite sure why they only did 11's the cars then were very quick. they had less weight restrictions. there must be a good reason?? keith? kerry? jeff? des? barry? any thought?

I asked this question earlier....It would be awesome to see the boys up the mountain. They would have to clock at least 310 to 315 kms an hour down conrod. Plus you could probably get 40 cars on the grid as im sure most of the boys would love to run there cars there. Not that it would happen as the v8s wouldnt allow quicker cars at the same meet as them...

why run at the v8 meeting?

the ipra (clubcar ) blokes get two opportunities a year up their, one at the fosc meeting , the other at the 12 hour.

just a thought

If the ASSA could get a guaranteed spot at the mountain, it would be a huge bargaining tool to boost the fields.

eg. "To be considered to run, you must compete in 3 National Meetings or 1 National meeting and 3 state based meetings in the previous 12 months". This would boost numbers at both State and National rounds.

Thats a good idea jd like you said if you gave the boys an incentive to run at bathurst then you would get bigger fields at all national and state rounds and a fairly big field at bathurst

Yeah but runnin at bathurst would be priceless to most guys besides if you could find a sponsor to cover some costs and have all the sports sedans bunkered together in the pits that would save money on pit garages..

I think the main issue back in 1992 was a lack of track time. Not many of the front runners had driven the track before (I think Des Wall and Keith Carling had in touring cars) but others like Brian Smith and Kerry Bailey I am pretty sure hadn't.
Back then the field was huge too with heaps of state level cars so getting a clear lap in qualifying wouldn't of been very easy either. Another thing to consider would be that Bathurst isn't a track that is very forgiving if you get it wrong so you'd have to think that some would of driven a bit more conservatively so they wouldn't end up in the fence.

As for how quick they could lap it that is a very intersting question!!!
I suppose it would really depend on how much track time the Sport Sedans were given to get used to the track and set the cars up. Darren Hossack & Tony Ricciardello have both done a few races there so I think they would dial into the track pretty quickly, man it would be awesome to see them go head to head at Bathurst!!!

When you consider that at horsepower tracks (e.g Eastern Creek, Phillip Island, Sandown) how much quicker both Darren and Tony are then the V8s I can't see why they couldn't go a fair bit faster at Bathurst. Obviously they need to handle the turns but we all know how well these cars handle!!!!
Jeez I would love to see a Sport Sedan hold the outright record there, haha that would make the the V8 Supercar guys blood boil!!!!
