Yes, Dunlop was chosen over 2 other brands that also expressed interest due to the following facts:

1) Their tyres were more cost efficient
2) Their tyres lasted a complete race meeting without excessive performance drop off
3) Dunlop offered to financially support the National Kerrick Series for 5 years
4) Dunlop were able to supply a range of sizes to suit small and large sports sedans with 16 inch, 17 inch and 19 inch wheels.
5) Dunlop are able to service all competitors at all tracks that the series travels to.
6) Dunlop corporate, Dunlop race tyre suppliers and the management of Sports sedans Pty Ltd were all part of the negotiation for Dunlop to be granted the sole tyre supply for the National series till the end of 2016.

All teams that have shown serious interest in the National series know that a large percentage of the sponsorship and supplier revenue that in earned during the season is shared among the complying series entrants at the end of the season. This has the effect of repaying a large percentage of the entry fees back to the teams that have supported the series and in fact made the series possible.

Nothing will change in 2013, other than we will seek some more sponsorship and supplier support for the benefit of the series and our series entrant teams. At this very moment I can guarantee there will be a 2013 series and the Sports Sedan company is solvent and this is in stark contrast to previous years where the NASSA Inc shook on the brink of collapse every year till it sank at the end of 2011.

This guarantee is very important as who would invest in equipment and infrastructure to run in a Nationals series without some degree of certainty. Now that we have this we may attract the entrants that are able to make the commitment required to run a successful ongoing series.

In my opinion the change from 16 inch to 18 inch tyres has done nothing to enhance the racing and was born out of the opportunity for individual competitors to seek an advantage. Once all the main players went to 18 inch then the advantage was dissipated and the outcome was many $$$ spent to be back exactly where they were. Now we are there and some can argue that we have moved up to world sports car sizing we at least have a sporting regs rule that limits the rim diameter to 18 inch as we do not want to go there again if XYZ tyre company brings out a killer 20 inch tyre do we?

By the way the NSSC passed a rule change limiting rims to 18inch diameter and this will be in the 2013 tech regs also.

If this means one or two competitors will not be able to nor desire to enter the National series we will have to live with this as the control supply was and is the right thing for the series.

FalconEL,
Could you not entice any new State based locals to come and play?

Yeah, my thoughts exactly Damian!!

Various competitors were screaming for an opportunity to race at QR, but predictably haven't followed though. Most of those guys are "keyboard jockeys" who would never race in a Sports Sedan race anyway I guess.

Suffice to say, this year will be the last "cheap National entry" subsidised by the QLD Association for a while!!

How can you entice state level drivers to come and play when here it is you not allowing them to run due to tyre choice. I understand the rule but as Chris said he is not after the points just a chance to run with national cars

Phil, the new rule limiting rims to 18 inch diameter, does that mean all tyres/rims in the future are to be 18 inch diameter (ie, no 16 or 17 inch) or is that the maximum diameter under the new rule.

hey guys, i think as e.c, etc were joint state/national rounds the state cars were able to run under
there own rules which is why they could run whatever tyres. As the wakefield round isnt a
state round everyone has to run under the kerrick series rules.

commodore51, no it just means you cant go BIGGER than an 18" rim.

If anyone is interested in a cheap entry for Wakefield, get in touch with Dean or if you don't have his number, PM your details to me and I'll pass them on to him.

Thanks John , much appreciated , Nadz is correct however , having Kumho as my sponsor presents a problem running on Dunlops . I never realised that there was a problem because every round this year has had other tyre brands used . Mallala was optional & the last 3 rounds have been combined State /National rounds in which state competitors were excluded from the control tyre requirements.
This round was not combined as the NSW motor race panel would only allow us to run 1 round outside the sanctioned NSW state championship dates & we chose Eastern creek for that round .

Regardless of that I was still intending to run at the meeting & support the National Series , as I have done at every NSW National round for the last 7 years & didn’t realise the tyres would pop us as an issue .

With Wakefield being the last & usually the worst supported round of the season ,( & I just noticed in the previous post that dean can’t run) , I still think that with the precedent set that other tyres have been used all season for non championship grid fillers , it wouldn’t take too much to continue that trend to finish the year out & make any changes like this for next season .

I have a reasonably good car ready to race , would love to join you all in a couple of weeks .
