Cheers guys

I would like to reiterate that this work is being completed by my chassis builder. As can be seen from his work in my opinion it is second to none.

Ricey88- each mould consists of the following:

- 2 layers of tooling coat
- A layer of resin to stop any air bubbles
- Then all the creases, edges and detailed areas are bushed with a mix of micro balloons and resin then 1 layer of 200oz CSM (chop strand matte)
- Followed by 7 layers of 450oz CSM
- 1 coat of spray core
- Then 7 more coats of 450oz CSM.
- Bracing is added as necessary.

Nadz44 - The whole body will be a full fiberglass deal. We looked at carbon/kevlar and all the exotic stuff but when it comes back to repairing it and being able to get those materials for a decent price it just wasn't worth it. Plus to do carbon right you would want to do it in an autoclave and i don't know about anyone else but i cant afford one of those!!

Its been a while between updates but with superbikes and 24hr go kart races taking up time recently its been a bit hard to find time for the supra.

Needless to say we have kept pushing on and have finished the RH door surround and completed the roof mould as can be seen in the pics below.

Next the windscreen will be completed.. hopefully this week.

Hey Nadz,

To answer your question.... No the chassis is not being built while the fibreglassing is going on. This may seem strange to some but to us it is perfectly normal.

The reasons the chassis hasnt been started yet is because we will be using the metal supra body (the one under the mould) to construct the chassis. This means that once the moulds have been taken we will strip the big guards / rear bumper / diffuser etc off the metal body. We will then brace the car internally and then remove the floor. The bracing will stop the car from distorting once the floor is removed. We will then put the metal body onto the jig. And then finally we will start to lay the tube up.

The reason for using the metal supra body is so that we know the body is true (toyotas dies must be spot on because this car is perfect dimension wise). When we come to making frame rails / roll cage etc by using the metal supra body we can position them as tight to the body as possible. This will mean the body wont flap around under aerodynamic load as its all nice and tight and has no where to move. I understand some builders can't build a car this way as they dont have a metal body to work with. We do so we can afford the luxury of using it.

For your info Nadz when the chassis is built it will be built on this....

The jigs face plate has been machined to a perfect flat surface and weighs in at a touch over the tonne.

I've also attached a pic of the clamps used to hold the chassis rails in position. These are very useful in keeping everything straight as a die.
