Interesting to read about Mallala being too far away for competitors in NSW and or Victoria.
More interesting is that 40% of the entry at Mallala this year is from Queensland and I can tell you it is a lot forther from Brisbane to Adelaide then it is from Sydney or Melbourne.

Mallala is not to far away for the bulk of competitors, me thinks many just want to be spoilt and only race at home?

Man up guys, a bit of a road trip is Australian tradition!!

For those keen to run at Bathurst here are some figures.

The recent Festiveal of Sporting Cars meeting charged 1 catagory $64000.00. For that they had 1 x 15min quaify, 1 x 20min qualify and 3 x 10 lap races. This fee includes marquee hire but I am usure about TV coverage.

Assuming a 40 car entry that's $1600 each for not a lot of track time.

I personally really enjoy the Shannon's Nationals meetings. All catagories are treated equally, we get a decent amount of track time and when you really add it up not much more expensive that a state round (for us QLD's anyway).

Hopefully the combined state/national rounds later in the year bring some bigger fields.

Well said Phil!!

Maybe the 3 hour drive to Morgan Park has made us all used to travelling. I can't remember the last time I went to a race meeting and was able to sleep in my own bed - really pisses you of when you live 5 minutes from the best track in Australia!!

yeh but you queenslanders are all nuts! Ok so for us personally its the first to go off our list because of the travel. Call us soft but if we are going to spend money we would prefer to do it at a closer place. Nothing wrong with the mallala circuit, actually we were very surprised at how well we went there. But if we are going to break on friday we personally dont want to drive home from adelaide on saturday.
So what do others think? Why arent you turning up there year after year? The queenslanders that do the series are all pretty dedicated guys you certainly have to give them that they are consistently there when they have to go the furthest by far. (excluding tony)
So victorians and other nsw people why dont you like it? and sa people whats the go? is there an sa entrant this year?

Why is there a shortage of cars for Mallala...?
Unfortunately it coincides with a meeting in VIC so you can count out a good 3,4,5 or more cars there... I know someone mentioned earlier the numbers of people who would have come from Victoria had the dates not clashed...??
Darren and John in the Audi would have come over except John had an overseas holiday planned and booked it 30mins before he was told there was a date change! And Dean Randle is concentrating on Tom's gokarting... And Kerry is busy with his work also...

Yes it is disappointing SA cant field more cars, unfortunately my work load doesn't allow me the time to get my car ready, I know Monterosso's old Escort was seen going in to be Dynoed last week with the new SR20 engine, Simon Longhurst's Cosworth Turbo is having a blown head gasket repaired, Simon Podlewski and Steve Knight are getting ready for the World time Attack challenge at Eastern Creek in a few months...

Ok, some may say excuses excuses... but they are actually "reasons"
People aren't sitting in their lounge chairs saying they cant be bothered, some guys are busy and others are working on their cars getting ready for other events, but I am in contact with them regularly and they still have "Sports Sedans" in their future plans...
And there are a few other cars I can think of also but would have to chase them up and see what they are doing...

Lets not also forget, we are going through a GFC.

As for MCM, I think its a great idea... Ive never been to the event, but maybe I should make some plans...
Would love to see a historic Sports Sedans category run their! (Only because I have 2 of them)

- Firstly it is good to see the Forum being used as exactly that... A forum. This seems to sometimes get forgotten on here. Everyone should be entitled to an opinion.
- Congrats to the NSW Committee for getting on the MCM programme. I have been to almost all of these meetings and it is a fantastic day out. There is no other event where you will get a higher volume of Sports sedan fans both past and present in one location. I agree with 2002 and Mr Boost that Sports Sedans need a premier event each year like there has been in the past (Indy, AGP Adelaide, Bathurst, Race of 1000 years) and through good fortune the Committe have been able to deliver it. Lets hope everyone supports it so it be an annual event and ideally be part of the NSW / National Championship in the future. It is great that there is so much time to promote too.
- Does anyone know if Tony R ever ventures onto the forum?? Would love to hear his comments about travelling to race meetings (lol)

If rounds are based on local support, then surely we must travel to Tassie for Bruce Banks' local round?

Here we are moaning about travelling, yet these guys make the boat trip every round.

We are only really a "state based team" yet we opted to support Kerrick and Phil at the Nationals this year.
We manage to find time and money to do the sport we love.

I am sure my mates would spend more than us on their golf clubs each year.

Oh and certainly count us in for Muscle Car Masters.

Great point about Bruce Banks travelling schedule. Us Tassie boys travel over the dearest piece of water in the world to race. Bruce is commited to the championship. He could have a reign of terror in Tas dominating every meeting but he wants to compete against the best and that's the Kerrick Australian Sports Sedan championship. Kerry Baily and Dave McGuiness have mentioned the tyranny of Distance for contesting the title from Tassie. Spare a thought for the Ricciardellos travelling from the west to contest and win numerous titles. The MCM is an opportunity to showcase the fastest and most diverse range of closed cars in Australia. This meeting can also launch the Historic Sport Sedans as a credible addition to the fantastic historic scene in Australia. To see the Edmonson Alfa in anger would bring a tear to a blind eye. Roll on the season and let's make sure that the SS presence at the MCM is the best presented, best supported category !!!!!!
