General Discussion about CAMS based NSW Sports Sedan Series

Sports Sedans at Bathurst

Postby Toymax » Fri Sep 17, 2010 8:20 pm

Hi Everyone,

After much talk about “having a run at Bathurst” it seems we now have that chance. The email below details a deal to run as a support category at next year’s Bathurst 12 Hour event. The email, sent by the organisers (Yeehah Events), sets out all the costing and other contract details required for Sports Sedans to run there as a category. Have a read, ponder it, and let me know what you think.

We would all, of course, love to at least once drive a race car around Mt Panorama. Whilst this seems like a once in a lifetime offer, there are a few points to consider:

1. Cost – each entry fee is $1000 + GST, and we must supply a minimum of 25 competitors.
2. Deposit - $10,000 due by end of October.
3. All competitors must hold a full National licence.
4. You cannot bring your own fuel – it must be purchased from the organisers at the circuit.
5. We must supply 4 flag marshals for the Sunday.
6. There is television coverage.
7. The entry fee is the same as for a National round.

In the email below the “Company” is our club, the ASSA NSW.

If we get enough interest in this event, please remember:

To make up a $10,000 deposit we need at least 20 drivers to pay $500 entry deposit by the end of October – but we would expect all drivers to pay the deposit. The remaining $600 for each driver will need to be paid by the end of the year.

It is pretty short notice, I know. That is due to circumstances well beyond the control of ASSA NSW.

If you are interested in this offer, please let me know right now. If you are not interested, please let me know right now. If you think it is a great idea, but too short for notice to be given, let me know - we may be able to negotiate a similar deal for the 2012 event, which gives us all time to prepare.

No matter what, please let me know. Contact me via this forum or at toymax@sportsedan.com.au

I'm in, where do I send the money!!!

I assume there will be a refund if something changes down the track?

Phast Phil, Round 1 2011 - Bathurst.
Surely this will entice 25+ cars out onto the grid.

Great idea. This is the sort of thing I need to get my buzz back! Round 1 or no round, this is an excellent opportunity. I have been around there in a FF and that was exciting enough! Feeling the car wandering down conrod in the cross winds, jumping metres left and right over the bumps, buzzing the engine over the mountain straight crest and absolutely sh*(%ng myself going too deep over skyline.... with many more reasons to drive around Bathurst.

Now to decide between the 13B and the 2L.... and will I have time to be ready....

1 question though, the 12hr website only has the fuel supply regulations for the actual 12hr competitors. Are the other categories going to have to buy a minimum of 205 litres of fuel??? And no E85, or can you mix it yourself with the track fuel??

Come on guys, show your interest! This is an excellent opportunity that probably wont happen again for a while. I think the last time SS were at Bathurst was the early ninties...

Right Toyzda, it was 1993.

I'm in the process of dealing with the fuel issue. It may be that we can organise an exemption in relation to it.

And yes, should we not get the required numbers very firm by the end of October, those who have put up their deposit will get it back.

This sounds great. In 1993 I think there were 65 Sports Sedans that ran at Bathurst. The first practice on the track was scary with only 3 flag points being used and cars stopping on the track for various reasons, you were not sure if there was a car in the middle of the track around the next corner.
It is without dought the best track in Aus.

The fuel issue is what I thought would be the biggest problem because people run a lot of different types e.g Avgas, racing unleaded, normal pump unleaded and E85. If you can get that sorted then all the other stuff shouldn't be too hard to get organised, haha might need to some ring ins to wave the flags!

By the way Toymax it was 1992 when the Sport Sedans last ran at Bathurst! :p

You will have to run with that one yourself Toxmax if you want it to happen.
For a number of reasons it cannot be part of the Kerrick series.
