Heavy Metal Regs

Hi all, I didn't realise that the regs for HM were not on the website, that has now been (or will be very soon) corrected. Posted under the "Competitors" tag on the home page.

Heavy Metal Regs

Postby proey » Tue Mar 30, 2010 6:34 am

When I first heard of the heavy metal class I thought I had lucked into a class I could have a run in and have a chance of winning. But after reading the rules my car does not comply as I have flares. How come that was done? There are a lot of good sports sedans out there that run the motor up front that can't run in heavy metal because of this.

Anyway just thought I would aske the question.

This is a weird way of looking at something Proey.
"I thought I had lucked into a class that I could run in and have a chance of winning"

It is quite easy to remove flares and put on wheels that fit under the original body if that is all that is outside the HM rules.

My Mustang runs the motor up front, as does all the transam cars, that does not mean we luck in, nor do we want to.

There is a set of rules there that covers cars that has modifications to the motor, gearbox, rear end and brakes. If we go much further than that then you may as well just build to the open sports sedan rules.

It seems that a lot of people like the HM rules but all the sudden some want to change them to suit what they already have that no one has ever seen. If as Proey states "there is a lot of good sports sedans out there" then why do not they enter as sports sedans at the next round, state or national?

The HM rules state that the cars body remains as manufactured, that is quite simple and will remain that way.

What sort of car is this?
Year?
Make?
Engine?
WHAT SIZE ARE THE FLARES?"

Is it one of the FD's or Skyilnes I have heard about?

Yep Nadz that's me and I feel like a goose now because the regs also state post 95 couldn't even run the Sierra if I wanted to. The escort is a bit older than 95. I guess I'm just a square peg in a round hole. Don't get me wrong its my own doing and I take full responsibility for it. I new the rules when I built the car. And yes it is an uncompetitive car. But it was built to a cost. The idea of a class where the cars are built along the same lines as my mine sounded really good. That is what I meant when I said "lucked in". Any way I'll do as many state rounds as I can this year. Unfortunately I can't do wakefield because my wife is due with our second son that weekend!

Sorry Walt Its got a nissan motor but that as close as it gets.

Regardless Proey, there is nothing stopping you (apart from $$$$ and having a bit on!) from having a run at a National event. If it's a 3D Sports Sedan, you're more than welcome as far as I'm concerned!

Uncompetitive is a relative thing, if you have someone to race against, it's all good. Often you find that you step your own performance up when you run in a National event also!!

I was at the OP meeting many years back when you had the front of your Esky destroyed by a wayward Vauxhall I think it was. You were an innocent bystander it that one Proey.
