Ice I respect your views and what you have said in the forum, but I also think that the rules should not be changed on a whim, gut feeling, or anything else for that matter besides actual results. Now I love V8's, as I have said before in this thread, but for money wise, I dont have the bucks of Kerry, Tony, and Phil. I would love to be able to spend that sort of money on an engine, and not just to build a turbo either, but reality is that this is the class with the most amount of freedom in the rules. So many engines, body, chassis, and transmission configurations, this and the ingenuity of the people that not only build them, but also the people that maintain them. To be competitive on a budget, you have to go for a rotary and/or turbo motor. Now I havent heard much about cost factor for the 20B regarding maintenance wise, but rotaries are generally pretty cheap to run and maintain. So are most V8 motors (before anyone fires up), most of the guys that I have talked to , generally do routine maintenance (oil changes etc..). With major rebuild only when needed. As Phil has said, anyone can go quick in a straight line, but to make it go around a corner quickly, that is the secret. Drive ability and traction are the keys. A good example of this is superkarts, they are not that much slower around a circuit than a V8 Supercar, why because they are light, but they also carry corner speed and have traction. As for the 900 hp 3.5 L engine, the RB26 Twin Turbo motor out of the Skyline is capable of that, and that is only a 2.6 litre motor, and it was rumoured anyway, that the Gibson Motorsport Group A Skylines had about 1200 hp availible to use. The RS500 Sierra's had anywhere from 500 hp to 800- 900 hp as well, and that is from a 2 litre engine. But also too I have heard of a 350 Chev that was running in NZ (quite a few years ago now), but the regularly saw 10,000 + revs, and that was rumored to produce anywhere from 600 hp - 750 + hp. I would say that the ruling was increased from 3 litres to 3.5, would have been to allow the Holden motors to be availible to the racers (the 202 & V6). And more motors available the more the choice. Sorry for the ramble, and this is not an attack on any one group, just MY OPINION!!! After the tragedy on the weekend, I'll say once again, TOO ALL RACERS, HERE'S TO YOU NOT ONLY HAVING FUN AND GREAT YEAR OF RACING, BUT ALSO A SAFE YEAR OF RACING. Good luck to all drivers. :D
