Maybe send them an email and tell them you want to promote our cars.

NSW SS in trouble??

Postby loser » Fri Feb 19, 2010 7:21 am

Loser what was the response like when the cars were on display at the Speedway, were people interested?

We haven't been yet 2002. I go to Avalon every year on Good Friday for the start of the 3 day Easter Trail for sprint cars and it is always packed. (Over 10,000 people) So we asked if we could bring along a couple of cars this year for display and hand out our series posters. They were more than happy to oblige. It's their last race of the season and a week or so before our first race so the timing couldn't be better. At the very least we'll be letting people know we exist and hopefully some kids take the posters home, put 'em on the wall and hassle their parents to bring them along to a meeting. If we can start to get some crowds back to state racing, then maybe some of us have a chance at some sponsorship money or we might attract a series sponsor to help out with the costs. It can only be good. Worst case scenario, 2 extra people turn up at our race meetings and we have to wash a couple of dusty sports sedans. I reckon if you could get some cars to Western Sydney or out to Parramatta raceway, it couldn't do any harm...Like I said, anything's worth a try and if the cars are sitting hidden in garages no one will ever know they exist..

NSW SS in trouble??

Why is it only up to us racers to promote our sport? Correct me if I am wrong but isn't there a few organisations that profit out of our investments, CAMS, Shannons and Race track owners? I for one haven't seen too much promotion on TV and in motorsport publications trying to get the public interested in attending events.Maybe a lucky prize could be offered, i.e. passenger rides in some of category cars that have passenger seats.

Would it be possible for all state and national bodies and race promoters get together to develop a unified national calender to enable state and national racers to compete and live in harmony. Maybe start now for 2012 calender.

Just a thought.

All good points olddog. I've pretty much given up on CAMS promoting anything other than their egos. As for Shannon's and the race track owners, I don't have an answer? Someone has to do something, so if we as competitors have to get the ball rolling then so be it. Hopefully with all the clever dudes involved with SS and on this forum we can lead by example and give them all something to aspire to?

There is the Inglebuurn alive festival a week after the first nsw state round in late march.... That always attracts a large croud... Plenty of displays and stores which i could look into for a static display... And also the fishers ghost festival in late october early november which starts off a street parade down the main street in campbelltown which attracts alot of spectators, would be good to get a couple of cars on the back of open trailers and get some banners made up and stickers and posters to give out...

NSW SS in trouble??

Postby Toyzda » Mon Mar 15, 2010 10:29 am

I was there on Saturday and the feild was good. The spread through the field was not too bad for Eastern Creek. I am guessing Snr Mr Boost is the Smith Calibra. He had a bit of a ride off the start through turn 1 with the 300ZX in his door!!! good save and drive back through the field.
The Said Fiat's 20B down the straight echoing off the grandstands is one of the most glorious sounds on a track.
Its a shame eastern creek gives the bigger engined cars such an advantage, but hopefully some of the smaller engined cars will start to show and give the field more little battles throughout the filed.

Ok, just a bit of feedback for everyone.. Last night Graeme Gilliland and myself took our cars to Avalon.. We were allowed to set up just inside the gate, so everyone had to walk past us to get to the track, and back past us to buy their food. We gave out around 600 posters, had just as many photos taken of the cars and were kept busy from the time the gates opened (3pm) until about 10pm when the finals started. At times the cars were swamped with people. There were the ones who knew all about sports sedans, talked about the old days and wanted to know who was still racing. Others who had never heard of a Sports Sedan and wanted to know all about it and about a dozen who thought they were drift cars. The thing that stood out most was that a huge majority of them said they'd love to watch us but never know when we're racing because they are not told. If half the people that said they'd come along, turn up to one of our rounds, it'll be the biggest crowd we've seen in a while. It even created some interest with a couple of ex racers who are making the trek down the island in 2 weeks now they know it's on.. Even if no one turns up, at least they know we exist now. I guess the biggest thing to take out of this is that somehow we need to promote ourselves a heap better than what we are now. I know our state meetings here in vic are sometimes advertised in the Herald Sun cars Guide but that's about it. I really think we need to get cars out to more events for displays. Sure it's a bit of an effort but i really believe it was a more than worthwhile exercise. NSW guys, I really think you need to make an effort to get out to Parramatta or the Drags if possible. (Or both). It'll be in your best interests..

Oh yeah, and they did come back covered in Mud and dust, but it washed off pretty easy...
