Chassis fabrication and suspension

Postby profi » Fri Feb 12, 2010 5:15 pm

I want to know how much you actually know, i have nothing to prove to you, i don't feel like proving anything to you, i just want to ask you something for my knowledge... here is my question, how would you set up a 4 link live axle diff to go around corners? i know the answer to this question using current technology, i just want to see your interpretation oh how it should work.

Chassis fabrication and suspension

i think healthy discussion is good for the forum....but more often than not stuff is taken out of context and people get pissed off .... seems like this thread has a lot to offer if everyone can stay on the facts.

p.s Corolla52 love the car! ive got a group n ke11 at home!

Chassis fabrication and suspension

Thanks Abuilder

Thats helps me to understand. I am trying to be like a
sponge and absord as much as I can. Am reading alot
of books trying hard not to baffle myself with science overload.

2JZSS

Thanks for the comments. I think the car will be a great car to learn
with. Haven't driven it yet, hoping to do some practice days soon.

2JZSS, well put. All forums need healthy discussion, it is just a shame that sometimes it gets lost.

Corolla52, Happy to be of help. One thing about the science is to not over think it. Don't get tricked into thinking that what works in theory may not necessarily work on the track. If you have any other questions and if I can answer them I will. Just PM me. I am not on here all the time so it may take me a few days to answer.

Mate, I have nothing to prove to anyone. I have the runs on the board. I have built and worked on cars and bikes that have won national events, I have built and worked on cars and bikes that have set national records, I have built and worked on cars and bikes that have won best engineering awards, I have built and worked on cars and bikes that have won custom shows and I have built and worked on cars and bikes that have been featured in national magazines. What do you have to your credit.

I have studied hard and long for my knowledge and I will part with it to my customers and anyone I think deserves or appreciates it. I am not interested in answering BS loaded questions.

Mate from what i have read you are only scratching the surface of suspension dynamics and am not looking at the big picture of whats going on... Just answer this one question, whats the car you are building so i can keep an eye out for it in the future.

Profi, you can believe what you want to believe. I am not some young kid who is working as a gopher in a race shop. I own my own chassis fabrication business and have done so for some 30 odd years. As for giving you information on the car I am building, it is my company policy not to divulge details of my customers vehicle. All I will say is that he is a member of this forum and if he wants to give any information that is up to him. I am sure when the car is finished you will find out which one it is.

Chassis fabrication and suspension

Interesting comments guys. To my knowledge drag racing suspension can not even be compared to circuit or street cars, it has its own science as i found out racing a drag car (Nissan Exa). I'm wondering if Abuilder is Johnny Cannon and if so i will say that John did a lot of suspension work on my drag car and the quality and set up was second to none. Car actually went very straight and i could tune the suspension to suit different tracks using a 4 link with an A arm.
PS.... if you are John Cannon i would like to say Hi its been a while and good luck with the new Mustang.

Best thread in ages this one. Your a welcomed addition to the forum Abuilder.

The Mk1 from my original post is set up for street / straight roads. Not as a race car. The guy that owns it previously had a street GTR that ran pretty quick 1/4's. I have seen a couple of Mk1's with a similar set up to that including the blue 2dr COS5IE so it must work to some extent for their requirements.
