hey guys
thought id put up a few pics of our new engine, graham has been spending ALL his time for the last 3 months building this little ripper, it was decided after the 2.5 mazda let go at eastern creek in may that graham was sik of rebuilding it. the only way it would keep up with the chevs was to rev it to 9000+ and pump 1.8bar of boost into it. SOO we built a 3.5L one instead. the idea being that we wont have to rev it so hard we wont need alot of boost which saves the turbos and also it should be much more drivable
the engine was run in last week and went to the dyno for a tune aswell. it ended up making the same numbers as the mazda 2.5 but comes on much earlier in the rev range which was one of our biggest problems with the old engine.
on the track friday and we had an oil pressure problem wqhich never surfaced before. went home and changed/cleaned all filters etc, checked the oil pump pressure relief valve etc. all looked ok so took it out to see what would happen sat.
in qualifying we found after about 4 laps it runs out of pressure again. it seems the new engine has a higher demand for oil than the old one and the oil pump we had cant keep up. there doesnt seem to be enough suction taking oil back to the tank quick enough so the bottom of the engine is filling up with oil leaving the tank empty so the pump has nothing to re suck up. so hopefully a bigger pump fixes this. we decided to park it before any damage occured.
its a holden rodeo engine.
