The Kramer XD crashed at Oran Park (Russell said they just kept running into him whilst he wanted to get out) and then Russell rebuilt it using a EA Falcon body and had a new engine built with quad webbers and alloy heads etc.
I then purchased the car in 1994 and Russell completed the build and we teamed up (Russell as my engineer) and went on to win the 1995 state championship.
The car was continually developed and run in National competition till 2003 when a sudden stop into the concrete pit wall at Mallala with irreparible damage ended its run.
It was getting long in the tooth in 2003 but was a testiment to Russell's build quality for that chassis to race for about 20 years. The EA / EB body panels live on the Donnelly Falcon now.
Russell is still a friend and has nearly completed an RX7 for something to do using his resourceful skills once again.

Don't you mean he collects everyone's second hand or un-wanted parts and uses them to build a beautiful car. Russell's Mazda is a work of art, the body fit and finish is fantastic. The doors open and close better and easier than most road cars!

Russell can usually be found in the pits tinkering with the Rover or in the truck having a coffee. ;)

I have not seen it yet but it does not surprise me that it is a work of beauty.
My brake calipers (off the old Falcon) are on his car so I can lay claim to a small part of it.

Is he still pissed at Crompton for shoving him out of the way on the last corner at Amaroo back in 87 for the channel 7 TV coverage? (I would be)

I think JD is referring to Neil Crompton the commentator who i remember ran an RX7 Sport Sedan for awhile. I remember the race as i remember he carried an inboard camera that day. They didnt show much of the footage (i wonder why) i rmember Dougy Mulray was commentating that day and made some good remarks about it. Would that be correct JD.

You have a good memory HTC. It was Neil Crompton driving Mike Griffin's Rx7. Just shoved him off to the side. It was the same race that Carling's RX7 ended up half up the embankment after touching a lapped car. Carling was pissed with that accident.
