Well that was just another great weekend. That is what this category is all about. Forget about all the bs we read on here, just get out in the shed, get your cars to the track and have an absolute ball with a great bunch of people...
A great fight for 2nd and 3rd from Cammy and Shane Bradford all weekend. Fierce on the track, very close, yet in between races sharing setup to help each other go faster..
CD did what he set out to do, finish all the races and have a phat time. Coxy did an awesome job in the SAAB for his first time out, and what about Bruce (Leo Wanker) Banks, showing em up in the last race with the best drive i've ever seen from him. Was a great battle between him, Robbo and Coxy for the whole 7 laps.
Seems like the weekend for fixing the reliability problems of the 2 Toranas. Toranaracer found and fixed the oil issues, and our fix was as simple as putting in a driver who is not completely retarded... :D
And up the front, Tony was driving the wheels off the Alfa showing why he won the championship this year, but it wasn't enough to catch Darren on his home track..
Actually, as i'm sure he'll be reading this, I reckon Darren was being a bit of a showoff cos there was a girl there. He went to an all boys school, and I think he gets a bit nervous around females? But that's just a rumour?
Yes, that was an awesome weekend! Totally agree Gaz, the spirit, camaraderie etc. of the Sports Sedan group is just amazing. Thanks for your input Gaz, we made a change to the Camaro that pointed us in the right direction and gives Shane some confidence for 2012! The battle between Shane and Dean Camm has been a highlight of the year, both wanted to beat the other and the racing has been super close with minimal paint swapped. It's been a very fair and friendly rivalry and certainly makes the weekend that extra bit special when you get to race your mates that close and have a beer together afterwards!
I was genuinely rapt for Bruce (Leo) Banks, he had a great weekend, probably his best ever! We mixed it up a bit with some real close, hard, fair racing and I worked my butt off to hold him out in Race 1 by trying to get good corner exits..... Crikey that Mazda has some sniff down the straight bits!! I think that's the fastest Bruce has been around the Island too, a well deserved 5th outright for the Round!! Tony Cox did a great job in his first ever run in a new car by getting down to 39's on a circuit that was unfamiliar to him, as well as the jump in horsepower from his Gemini Toyota Turbo that he's been running in QLD. Top work Coxy!
Damian Johnson and crew deserve a massive pat on the back, their committment to the category and Series is amazing. Terrific also to have our first female National Series competitor in Lauren Gray, and kudos to Garry Roberts for doing a great job with the preparation of the green Torana to provide her with a good reliable run!! We got some excellent media from having Lauren in the Series, so we need to think about doing more with this in the future! We;re the best category out there by a mile, but still the best kept secret around! As for Darren and Tony, well the speed of those cars is just outstanding. It's special to be on the same racetrack as those guys and they provide a real carrot for the rest of us to try and lift our games to get to their level!!!
I was really happy to come away with 3 finishes from 3 starts, I was hoping for a 37 in Qualifying, nearly got there with a 38.6, so happy enough :) Felt pretty fast to me!. I made a few mistakes in the races, like driving straight ahead at Honda in the damp last race and banging it back to 2nd gear for Lukey Heights (from 5th gear) with Robbo on my tail in Race 2. All in all, the Falcon went well, and it was a good test with the 3.25 diff in for our run at Bathurst next February. (I now know I could have run a 3.5 like Robbo does, but I don't rev my rig as hard as him ;) ) Many thanks to my father for preparing the car so well. We made some significant changes to the front end geometry since our last outing at Morgan Park and the fact that I was able to drive it into the corners as hard as I could at Phillip Island is a reflection of the hard work he puts in behind the scenes. Thanks also to Shane Bradford and the whole Aston Air Conditioning team because without Shane, I wouldn't be out there as often as I am! Cheers mate!
Should we all chip some money in and assist Lindsay Fox in getting the rocks and dirt in the Scrutineering Area (in front of the scales) sealed with some form of hotmix or concrete? I mean the circuit is a multi million dollar investment and here we are pushing cars across this cr@p to get the cars weighed after qualifying........ We spent the next 40 mins cleaning the rocks off the tyres and out of the car........
Thanks to Kerrick, Phil Crompton, Geoff Boyd and everyone that works hard behind the scenes to make it all happen! Can't wait for my next outing! :)
