Possible rule idea's

I was hoping to put across a rule change idea for next year
It stems from all our recent talks about category image, promotion etc
I know over the years we have always been described as things like the ‘winged warriors’ etc
It has become quite apparent and was very apparent at the 12hr that we are no longer the winged warriors but the old school little winged cars. Gt cars of today have wings spanning wheel to wheel, all the rage of time attack, drift etc all have big wide wings and they look fabulous, they look mean and they look like real race cars.
This has also come to my attention in looking for a new wing for the calibra, it costs more to buy a little wing than a big wide one as the big wide ones are in production EVERYWHERE.
Why do we have this maximum wing width rule? Could we possibly change it next year to make it that you can be as wide as the car? What would be the problem with that rule?
I thought it would be good to change it as soon as we can so we keep with the times and people building new cars can get them cheaper. For existing cars that wanted to bother to uprgrade a new carbon wing can be bought for half the price of a set of tyres.
What does everyone think?
Looking at the cars over the last year I think it would definitely help the ‘image’ and would even put a touch extra performance too. I know it seems like a trivial thing but it will definitely give a huge visual impact as we really are starting to fall behind the times with aero etc these days.
Its at least a step in the right direction of the rest of the world

I cannot believe that you have not read the revised tech regs for 2013.
Your clubs have been notified, maybe they need to be a bit more on the ball and communicative with members.
You can find the new regs on the CAMS website.

I have read the tech regs and the amendment allows you to run a wing at 1830mm wide with a max cord of 275mm, unfortunately that really only leaves you to use a trans am wing that would be much less efficient then a nicely designed duel element at 1600mm wide wing with a cord of 400mm.

What i think boost is saying, why not step our look right up and give our cars back the 'winged warriors' profile we once had.

What would be the downside of allowing 1830mm wide rear wings or the width of the car which ever is the lesser with a cord of 400mm and a max of 2 elements?

Probably a good example of our wings compared to what else is out there.

Phil, you need to pull your head in. Yes, an email was sent out about technical rule changes and yes (as always) the information was forwarded on to all members and competitors. In addition, the rule changes were discussed at more than one of our committee meetings, and Nick is on the committee. And like he said, he did read the regs before he posted.

So Phil you are out of line on 2 counts. He DID read the regs, and there is no problem at all with our communication with our members. In fact I'd have to say you could learn something from how the State guys treat their members and communicate with them. Having little brain snaps like the one above is not constructive and it helps nobody. Better to say nothing.

Nick, we can have a chat at our next meeting about the process for suggesting rule changes, and take it from there if you like.

Indeed guys, draft up a proposal, send it through to the State Associations for their consideration and it can be added to the agenda for the next NSSC meeting.

Cheers,

I doubt that I will ever "pull my head in" nor does it upset me that some think that I should.
Most want rule stability and that has been requested through state associations time and time again.
The GT3 wing looks like a single plane one to me and our new rule would come close to that and is an across the counter cost effective item. Most if not all cars lack front downforce and do not need more at the rear.
