hi there I am in the process of building a space frame, and want to know if the proposals that were posted got passed.
they clarified the ruling nicely and cleaned up the order of the rules so they were easier to follow rather than jump when and were are these published?
thanks in advance

From what I am lead to believe there will be a NSSC (National Sports Sedan Committee) meeting in the next month or two. Once a common proposal is agreed upon by the state committees, it will be submitted through the NSSC to CAMS Techincal.

Hi all,

Facebook post from Phil Crompton this morning:

The 4 diagrams drawn up by Tony Gonn and the updated group 3D Sports Sedan tech regs submission with reference to the diagrams were sent to CAMS this morning. CAMS now have everything we can supply and this will be circulated to their committee or panel that will approve or otherwise. Past experience is that this will take at least 2 months or longer if the panel has a lot of other category submissions already on the table. CAMS has already acknowledged receipt. It is a complete re-write without tracking reference however I did provide a guide that highlights the actual changes that may be made to cars so that they know what the end result will be. I will update you all as I am informed.

Cheers, CD.

I know CAMS are the governing body of Australian motorsport but I don't understand why it is they have control over the class can and cant do in regards to building a race car, whats it to them if the wings are a couple of mills wider each side or the overall aero is improved or whatever new rule is trying to be implemented, like I said I realize they are the mob running aussie motorsport but whats in it for them if they are to knock back or approve certain rule changes, obviously if new rules and regs are being bought forward to CAMS then they have had prior approval by the people who count to want these rules and regs approved, why would CAMS knock them back if it is what is wanted for the class and will help move it forward????

Hey Nadz,

There's often more to it than just rubber stamping rule submissions. I don't think CAMS will knock it back anyway, from what I've seen and been involved with the proposed rules will clear up a lot of grey areas. CAMS need to consider a lot of things, costs, potential liability, spirit of competition/category, safety standards etc. This takes time because even though people think CAMS is this giant monolith with 400 employees, this is far from the truth. The confederation relies a lot on volunteers on panels and commissions to give up their time to do a lot of the hard yards.

Like everything, there is a process involved, otherwise you end up with a free-for-all where every category keeps asking for more and more freedoms, going faster and faster and spending more money to do so. Eg. Improved Production is so far removed from what was originally envisaged when the Club Cars category was started up in the late 80's early 90's, they've had so many freedoms allowed over the years that a few of the front runners need V8SC running gear to stay competitive. Sets of tyres for those blokes almost cost as much or more than a set of Dunlops the Sports Sedans run! Saloon Cars is another one, their category "management" have allowed more and more freedoms in certain areas that they aren't even close to what was envisaged as a basic Holden Commodore v Ford Falcon series. Even the QLD Gemini Series runs fibreglass guards, non-points ignitions, Yoko A050's that cost a bomb, beefed up drive trains etc. Try and buy a decent Formula Vee for less than $60K also - this is another ridiculous scenario - entry level openwheelers....

Part of the problem is various categories want this, want that, but somewhere the line needs to be drawn. Unless people just want to race in butchers picnic events where all-in, no rules, do whatever you like. I know I don't, and would much prefer to be involved in properly regulated categories and events.

Good question though mate. :)

Well, after a lot of work my the State Committee's, the new rules have been released!

Message from Derek Van Zelm
Hello Group, well after a few more emails back and forward today and 2years work by a number of people I am happy to say the 2016 CAMS 3D Sports Sedan rules are live on the CAMS website under bulletin B15/033.

Link to the new rules : http://docs.cams.com.au/Manual/Race/RA20-Group-3D-2016-1.pdf

Point to take note, these rules are Progressive, ie. existing vehicles are still eligible for competition, the freedoms allowed in the new rules are optional - you must however ensure your vehicle complies with all the relevent Schedules in the CAMS Manual.
