Changing the Rotary multiplyer to 1.74 = 12a in u2L

A race 12a is similar to a race 2L engine in performance, but currently gets put into the 2001-2500cc category at 2005.5cc. Dropping the multiplyer for rotary engines to 1.74 allows the NA 12a engine into u2L without moving any of the other rotary engines, NA or boosted, into another category.
This may boost numbers in the u2L category and allow some more cars to race each other? It may also aid with period specific 12a engined cars racing?
How would such a rule change go about getting in if it was supported by the SS community?

I would gladly run as a U2L but do not want the added expense or trouble of building a 11 1/2A.
I think it would be a good idea.

This is a great idea and would be an easy way to bolster numbers in u2l! You need to get some support for this. Contrary to the popular perception, a rotary can be very cheap and reliable, especially in normally aspirated form. Look at Graham Gilliland's little rocket. I know his is in the upper spectrum of what a 12a can perform like, but think of the cost of building an sr20 or a duratec or similar, to get these engines to somewhat perform in na guise can be very costly.
This would be a sensible idea for building u2l and would most likely attract a lot of support from current racers and those thinking of getting into sports sedans.
I'm all for it, good luck campaigning this rule change, I really hope cams take this onboard and make the right decision.

thought it went a bit too hard for a 12a!

Well i am not a member of any CAMS clubs ATM as my car is still un-raceable. Maybe someone else will bring it up at their club's meeting.
I also believe an electronically controlled 12a would be very reliable and comparively priced to build against a late model 2L engine.
I feel the original rule was to ensure the 12a didn't compete against 2L cars, but the newer generation engines are faster off the jap wreckers floor than a ported, carby 12a! Both of them injected and electronic ignition they could both make 250hp for a few $K
Anyway hopefully someone pushes this through :)

I am no rotary expert, however I do remember someone from Historic Touring Cars telling me that 12A parts in good condition were getting quite scarse to find. :o
From memory the rotary multiplier was actually rejigged to make a 20B turbo under the 6000cc maximum engine capacity.
I do like your thinking to open it up for U2L.
Are there any U2L members on here that could see any possible issues that we have not considered?
Wasn't there a single bank turbo rotary running in U2L here in Victoria a few years ago?

I know there was a narrowed 12A that brought the CC's in under 2L. It was in an rx3 from memory. Profi would know of the car.
I don't expect many people would throw there developed 2L engines away and go 12a as a well developed 2L would still be faster. A PP injected 12a stressed out will maybe make 280hp. I believe the rumour mill has the 2L Beninca Alfa over the 300hp mark...

A good 12a rotor pp strung out is very lucky to be pushing the 250hp mark. I dont now whether or not the u2l have a weight restriction on then as the rotor motor is very light. does this have to come into consideration
