With so many cars in SS series, what is the lightest and the heaviest cars out there ?
Im looking at getting into a space frame SS/other and am interested in finding out if low weight, big slicks and average HP will provide low times. Or do you need very big hp - hands down ?
There is a GT2 car for sale in the states and the owner says that is weights 2350lbs, has 300 atw hp and it passes cup cars and 20B's etc. How would this car lap time wise at EC?
Do the GT2 cars compare with the SS in Aust ?
Are our tracks in Aust ie EC & WP totally different to the long tracks in the USA and their cars will not suit ?
Cheers Tim

You only have to look at the Centreline suspension Mazda 20B naturally aspirated performance at the last 2 Nationals he competed in. He ran 3rd in one race at Sandown and 3rd overall this year at Winton.
Any car that goes around corners well gets down the straights better than higher HP cars that do not come out of corners well.
The reason the Alfa and Audi go well is because they handle well....plus they have good HP. There is other cars with more HP but they are nowhere near this pair and I would think if Muscat ran the Mazda all year in the series it would have taken a top 3 series result.
Tracks are tracks, our are not different to the USA of Europe.

Thanks Phil,
Yes I have seen the Chambers Rx7 for sale on my105, real shame it is a roller. Would be a great car if it was selling as a turn key.
What about the Saab ? Good value for 65k?
I was looking to import a NASCAR style car with all the goods and it seems like one can be bought for under 25k. But the weight of these cars vary and is about 1.2-1.5 ton and they would probably be set up for large long radius corners, like turn 1 at EC. A lot are 4 speed also. There are plenty of the light weight trucks from the popular truck series that are priced really well also.
Any thoughts ?
I'm looking for a multiple purpose car, for SS, irace etc.

How does the oz truck package work? Would they be upset if I bough one in privately or is it more of a franchise deal where you are expected to buy one from the oz truck guys ?
I should go to see the Saab to see what is available.
Definitely going to the next state round of SS nsw to see more of the cars up close.
