Sports Sedans, Now And Beyond......

I can't speak for John Goulay and Ron Hossack but I'm confident I could put together an Rx7 with an Ls1 and a Nascar dog box with ex NASCAR brakes and Jap import style suspension and Porsche cup tyres(second hand or new) which would run in the 1.31 to 1.33 second laps at Eastern Creek. This car would be usable as a time attack car and a Sport sedan for under 50k. I travel to the US twice a year and see hardware at incredibly cheap prices at Auction. I've seen a number of cars that could with slight modifications run at the pointy end of the SS field for under 70k. I'm not naive to say that these cars will beat Tony or Darren but would certainley be in the next pack with the Calbras, Camaros and Monaros that make up the next bunch. I never want to see the hand fabricated masterpieces and clever home engineering that typifys SS historically but to keep the class alive we have to get new blood and new cars in the field. Using a live rearend withCambered ends with a turbo 4, 6 or ex Nascar v8 and ex Nascar brake hardware and ex V8 supercar uprights etc. You could certainley put together a competive piece using Speedway type Chassis. Speak to Phast Phil he has a Finite whatever program Lol which he uses to design a chassis which he could sell plans for or sell in Kit Form to be welded together by those capable. Please discuss!!!

Hey Torana racer,

My new Mustang body arrived today in 2 big wooden boxes with lots of bubble wrap (that stuff is addictive). The quality is awesome and the nice carbon bits gave me a bit of a twitch and very light.

A lot of smaller things being fabricated on the chassis now like accelerator pedal and rear to front solid oil lines through the tunnell and gear lever etc.

Next major work will be fitting the body and making front and rear windows.

Once all this is done we will be able to complete the drawings and yes it would be possible to sell the fabrication as a kit, however one needs a jig to assemble the kit properly. I would love to build 3 more of these (and we do have that capability) once we have tested and established a lap time with a gun driver. Like John G says, we need a level playing field so some up and coming drivers know that if they hop into a certain car ro cars they can challenge for the lead. I want my creation to be one of those and it needs to be achieved economically so it is affordable.

John G are on the same page however our designs are very different, but I see no reason why the speed outcome cannot be similar with a similar skilled driver. If they are a bit apart it should not be too difficult to make a change or 2 to whatever (maybe aero or shocks or weight distribution or equalisation) to achieve parity.

Yes some people need to talk to do all this in harmony for an agreed outcome but most importantly we need action, not just from us but from the rest of the folk that are building or rebuilding cars. Having something in 2 years time is not the answer if it is too late then.
