Thanks....anyone know if the Alfa is still around. Did the Falcon ever run and by whom or was it converted into another body style????? Looks like a lot of car not to have ever run.

If the Alfa is still around it is not running those massive box guards. The only early Falcon XD/XE Sports Sedan I recall was Caruso's that ran here in Sydney. I thought that was floor planned. I will go through the archives and see what I can dig up.

Not sure what happened to the Alfa, just spoke to my father who thinks it may have been damaged in a shunt and not rebuilt. We used to garage the Group A Rover Vitesse over at Peter Cross's workshop for a while - Crossy was a very nice bloke, helpful etc. It'd be good to know where that car ended up. The car was about as wide as it was long......

As for the XD chassis, I remember when my father was looking at moving into Sports Sedans after racing Touring Cars for many years, we went and took a look at the chassis and Dad actually bought it off Maurice. It was in a pretty poor state when we got it, and we only used certain bits off it such as brakes/wheels etc. because the rest of it wasn't worth much if I remember correctly (ie. you had to be about the size of a 10 year old kid to get your backside in the car....) Plus, it might not have complied with chassis tube sizes etc. (it all looks a bit small in the pics). Dad reckons he onsold the chassis again, can't remember who to though. We might have used some of the ideas from that chassis in building our current car back then.

The only other XD I can remember was the spacerframed Russell Kramer XD (circa 1980) - this car ended up being rebodied into EA/EB Falcon format and purchased by Phil Crompton who ran it first in 1995. Crompo did a very quick 51 second lap at Lakeside in the 1996 ASSC round in this car.

Great find there HTC, some good reading on that website in particular the development work with the Formula Brabhams and Porsche 956s, that Maurice guy sure has worked on some pretty awesome cars.
Also great to finally see some good technical pics of Briggs BMW Sport sedan, tell you what it looked a heap nicer back then, suppose it hadn't been through so many hands at that stage and been butchered.

As far as Caruso's XD Falcon goes, I am certain its a floor pan car, wonder if he still has it?

I think the Caruso car was either the Masterton or Callaghan Group C XE Falcon - can't remember which one though. jdyort? :)

I got Kramer's and Caruso's car mixed up. Was thinking Caruso's was the really wild early built car. I think Caruso's may be the Callaghan race car. In an AMC article a few months back there was a bit on the guy who now owns the Callaghan XE and said that it was raced as a Sports Sedan. Kramers car was built in early 1980 from his XY and raced until at least 1987.
