Sports Sedan Forum

Hey guys,

Im in the throws of creating a new sports sedan to come race. The problem im facing and its a big one is what car body to use. I just want to find out what body moulds are around so i can either buy/ borrow (for a fee) the moulds as ive heard it can cost alot of money to get a set made. If you do have a set and dont mind attaching some pics this would be great!

Might be an idea to let people know where you are too.
Can't imagine someone from Melbourne loaning molds to you if you're in perth etc...

Nice. I had a 1.5J in my car (not a logbooked SS but I have plans for it to be so)
Good engine, very strong and capable of good power without much drama.

Woops suffered some brain fade when i wrote this! Im located in toowoomba/brisbane. id prefer something in qld but if i have to go out of state and pay for shipping etc then i guess i'll have too.

As far as the 2jz is concered im tossing up between one of these and a vg30 as they make great power for little mods also.

any body types you prefer? if theres an idea in your head we can direct you to people with similar looking or perhaps the same car as you would like.

If you went Nissan power then my weapon of choice would be the VQ35DET as a base engine.
Alloy block, extra half a litre capacity and with the class limit for turbo being at 3528cc or there-abouts its a perfect size. Lots of bits available for it from the USA (damn the exchange rate)
The only thing better then 3ltrs + boost would be 3.5ltrs + boost

I think you'd have the best luck in borrowing/renting moulds from a body style that is more common in the Sport Sedans e.g series 4 RX7, Calibra, Honda Prelude, Nissan 300zx, etc.
Of course you need to convince them to let you use their moulds first though!!!

I'm not really looking at any particular body types. i think all sports sedans look cool! I really just want to see who is willing to lend me (for a fee) or sell their moulds before i make the decision, but at the moment nothing has come up so i may aswell just go and make a car of my choice then work out some way of doing the moulds or befriend a fibreglasser. I have also considered running a jap shell like a skyline or supra or something as i could buy a wide body kit then add some flares at a smaller cost then having moulds done. Plus alot of the jap stuff you can get in carbon aswell...

Well, there are the new rules allowing floorpan vehicles which is what mine pretty much is.
I was considering selling the shell in changing to something else instead but Im not 100% sure on that move.
Going space-frame would be quite expensive compared to modifying a floorpan car I reckon. Wouldn't be as fast using a floorpan car compared to the topline runners but in the Qld series I reckon it'd be a good idea. As an indicator, on small 265 medium compound slicks with a car weight of 1255kg + driver and 650hp at the engine my car ran a 1min 16.3sec lap of the National circuit at QR. With softer/wider sports sedan tyres, better brakes and some more weight trimmed it'd be able to take it to Bob McLoughlin I reckon.

Hi mk2 sedan what type of car are you running?

It's a Mk2 Sedan, from Toyota.
Some people think they are Chasers but they're a different spec. and they look different.
It's in storage at the moment due to various reasons. Money being the biggest lol

So there's an option for you 2J. Buy my sedan and stick a 2J into it and go racing :)
CAMS cage already in there, suspension, diff. Just needs brakes, engine, management and wheels/tyres plus I have a spare shell lol
