A real shame, probably the biggest field there has been in Sports Sedans for a numbers of years.

Profi do you have updates on damage, injuries?

that makes me feel sick.

thoughts go out to all you guys, hope your all ok and that the cars look worse than they are.

that is a MASSIVE shame

Our car 48 was involved in this mess. The following cars were affected:

Chris Muscat's Centreline RX7- Extensive panel and suspension damage and some structural. (repairable)
Luke Chambers' RX7- Extensive panel and suspension damage and the main frame luckily untouched.
Chas Talbot's Commodore V8- The front of the car completely written off will require extensive rebuild.
Geoff Munday's Transam- Extensive panel, suspension and some structural damage.
Terry Hamilton's Commodore V8 (chassis car)- Very badly damaged, extensive panel, suspension and chassis damage. Unfortunately the car is probably written off.
Darden Brown's Turbo Gallant (Chassis car)- Front and rear of the car badly damaged and will probably require at least a cut and shut to repair.

There was also an under 2litre sports sedan involved but I don't know the extent of the damage to that car.

I am extremely relieved to report that all the driver's walked away from this mess with the worst injuries being a damaged thumb and a sore foot. I have spoken to a few of the drivers on Monday who reported being a bit sore but all in all a very good outcome from such a disaster.

I have spoken to most of the teams involved and all are committed to getting the cars back on track as soon as they can. In our case we stripped the car Sunday afternoon and checked all pick up points and started to arrange all the parts we need for the rebuild, but like all the other guys, money is the key factor and with trying to complete our number 47 car this accident has put a huge strain on the finances. However, we will push on and with a lot of hard work and nights in the workshop we hope to have both cars ready for Winton in late August.

What a shame to what looked like a great race, whose in the blue and white car on the front row.......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ........I think this is one of the reasons a rolling start is not such a bad thing not as as exciting but at the end of the day reduces this sort of thing from happening. Hope all you guys get back on track.

I disagree with the statement that rolling starts are not as exciting.
Having watched a proper rolling start for the first time in New Zealand I thought it was more exciting than this waiting around for a standing start business.
Standing starts cost more time compared to rolling starts therefore more time for racing. Add into that more cars still on the track due to less start line incidents then the whole race is better.
I did 3 standing start races in April and had to avoid stalled cars and first corner incidents in 2 of the 3 races. This spread the field out on lap one so the spectacle of the race was lost very early.
Give me a roller any day!

We have been doing Rolling starts at QR and Lakside for 2 years now ! Not one start line accident ! :(

You still get the idiots crashing at turn 1 and 2 but that happens anyway no matter which way you start.

Also no one has been braking transmissions and diffs ? Maybe thats a good reason as well ? :o

At a time when Sports Sedans are struggling for numbers and need
all the interstate support they can get, why would you want to
stir up trouble.
So to all sports sedan racers I / We Victorians
would love you to come down and race here, I / we think of all
sports sedan owners / drivers as being equals.
Lets save the interstate rivalry until all states have great fields,
at all events.
