General Discussion about CAMS based VIC / TAS Sports Sedan Series

Sandown Historics

Postby roverboy » Thu Oct 30, 2008 11:16 am

The Victorian Sports Sedan Assoc must have known that 3 big sports sedan events within a matter of weeks would all struggle for numbers.

A little more planning required there fellas???

So if im not mistaken you have the 50k plate at phillip island then sandown historics and then tne national meet at sandown, all in a row, thats a bit silly i would think. Like people have said it will mean that only minimal numbers would be at each meet...

50k plate is one w/e natoinals is the w/e after not sure when historics is.

i can go testing at wakefield for 1/20th the cost than doing a historics round where you cant make changes coz ur racing. i get what your saying about being at the track your going to be racing at but for an interstate person it is really not feasible when you are trying to find the money to ge tto the nationals alone. 'Testing' usually requires stop start and make a change. it just doesnt happen at a race meeting to the extent you need.

not dissing the historics i would LOVE to see a full field there, and yes we would enjoy the crowd etc but its just not feasible for alot of us.

it costs us 5k to do a national round and that means we stay in the cheapest caravan we can find, we all squash into a holden rodeo so we have minimal fuel costs, we buy peoples second hand race tyres and we save on fuel by blowing up on friday anyway! :)

it costs some of the more competitive guys in excess of 10k, sometimes people get the mind that race car drivers have an endless pit, thats only porsche cup!

Problem with the National series is that many of the state guys are not close to the front at a National event, apart from the Hossacks, Nelson, Tamasi who can run towards the front. It seems odd they have 3 events in 4-5 weeks but thats where the organisers of ASSA Vic should have looked at the calendar. I am just happy to see Sports Sedans on the track and especially at Sandown where you can watch them from other places other than the grandstand! The Nationals NEED to open somewhere else at Sandown like the VHRR/MGCC do!!!

How about they make the 50k plate and the national round 1 event. After all you guys run at PI during the year, Why not make it the last round of the year instead, then everyone would win. Whether or not the Vics would love to have that happen to this event is another story. After all too many stand alone events within a small time frame, only hurts all competitors. Hey Phil when you guys organise the calender, you consult with what everyone has put forward, or is it up to the Shannons National Series organisers??

Love your sense of humor Mr Boost.......save fuel by blowing up on Friday. I do it by crashing on friday!!!!!!!

Good to see that many people supported my point of view. We need to put ego aside in future and do what is best for our beloved sports sedans. We need to make decisions before the season starts rather than creating this sort of thing.

The National series will operate supported by legal contracts from entrants for 2009. It will not prevent teams going to other events but it will insist they pay and go to the rounds they select at start of year. Not enough signed contracts may lead to no series at all. We lost money running the Nats in 2008, there is none left to lose in 2009. You may ask why.....the series sponsor wants to see cars on the track and it has become a condition, a very reasonable condition in my opinion following the low unexpected grid numbers this year. It is also the only answer that I see to ensure we meet budget.

Believe it or not some entrants try their darnest to get out of paying the entry fee and kick up a merry stink when we insist they pay by offering the go home option. Yes by Saturday morning they are at the track and still have not paid. You would not believe the responses some times. Some people are actually trying their best to financially ruin the Kerrick series and abuse our staff when they try to complete their job. Maybe I start a shame section in the forum!

Gee i didnt realise there were so many politics involved in Sports Sedans. For someone like myself about to enter this catagory, it doesnt read pleasant viewing let alone someone from outside reading this. I'm not up on all the news from the Sports Sedan Association but it looks to me like the same old story of very few putting in alot of effort and time off their own backs and getting no support. i have seen this before in the other form of motorsport i was involved in. C'mon guys lets get together as a unit and promote this fantastic catagory.

Can i ask a question. Do we have a delegate in each state that represents his state then they all come together with the various topics to discuss.

I suppose the answer to everything is very simple. I get 20+ entrants to sign contracts for 3 events in 2009, one in Qld, one in NSW and one in Vic or SA. The date is a problem in SA but would love to see the Clem Smith cup continue.
We already have a naming rights sponsor and when I have the contracts I go to the Nationals and sign on. Simple...I need 20+ entrants at $3000+GST to cover the 3 round series costs. Once I have that no politics applies or is needed.

OK, as long as we have your email detials you will receive the contract in November and return by mid December. If I have 20 we go ahead. Surely this is easily achievable. There will be 30 miutes TV per round, $1000 per round extra Kerrick voucher + another support sponsor award for best presented overall team and another support sponsor award for the charger who passes the most cars.

What I do not want to see on this site (the Kerrick Nationals) is people promoting or suggesting support of other non Kerrick events. It is called bad manners and in future I will have any such topic deleted. I am sure AVESCO would not tolerate that.
